ENRIQUE'S MEXICAN RESTAURANT

PICTURED (top to bottom): Restaurant, Chips, Salsa and Guacamole, Chile Verde Tamale and Beef Enchilada, Pacific Coast Taco, Mar y Tierra, Pork Shank, Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramel Sauce and Vanilla Sauce.

The ladies hadn't been to Enrique's in over two years, and I had never been; so we decided it was time the 3 Tubby Tummys gave it a whirl. Enrique's is located at 6210-12 E Pacific Coast Hwy in Long Beach. It always seems busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table on Friday night. We were seated at a comfortable booth. Our server was enthusiastic, attentive and helpful. A pure delight.

We started off with Chips, Salsa and Guacamole. Their Salsa is nice and chunky, and just spicy enough. The Guacamole was excellent. Sweetie Pie ordered a combination plate with a Ground Beef Enchilada, Chile Verde Tamale and a Pacific Coast Taco (off the menu). The beef in the enchilada was a little too finely ground and the enchilada sauce a bit odd. The Tamale was good but the shining star was the Pacific Coast Soft Taco- loaded with chicken, cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato, etc. It was very big and very delicious. Her mother ordered the Mar y Tierra-grilled chorizo sausage, chicken breast and shrimp, with beans and sauteed corn kernels. Sounded good on the menu, but was rather boring. I ordered the Pork Shank ( off the menu, but usually available). Seems like just about everyone has either seen or heard about it. It's a very large dish, with a generous serving of tender, fall off the bone pork. What really makes it a stand-out though is the great sauce. I would definitely order it again, and again.
At our server's suggestion, we decided to share the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream and Carmel and Vanilla Sauces. Big and beautiful coming to the table, and tasted even better than it looked!

Tonight's Enrique's dinner gets two thumbs up from the 3 Tubby Tummys!
